Pellepenna's August special feature is Diplomat, a well-established German writing instrument brand that is well-known to those in the know.
Diplomat was founded in 1922 as a manufacturer of high-end writing instruments in a town called Hennef in Midwestern Germany. The brand name Diplomat means "diplomat" and was named with the aim of becoming a global brand like diplomats active in various countries.
With the introduction of the first cartridge-type fountain pen in the German market in 1958, it contributed to the spread of fountain pens and grew into a first-class brand.
In 2008, 86 years after its founding, the company undertook major reforms to its logo and the shape of its clips, transforming it into a more modern and futuristic brand while valuing tradition. The current logo is called "Ink Flower" with a design that resembles a droplet of ink to a flower petal.
Diplomat's main products are manufactured in our own German factory and individually inspected by hand. The models are almost entirely metal-based. The choice of metal as the material provides perfect balance and strength against impact. Another reason to choose metal is that a pen with a metal shaft can be used to write letters by taking advantage of its weight.
The nibs, both 14K gold and steel, are specially made for the Diplomat and are characterized by their excellent writing comfort and control. The pen core, which influences the ink flow, is fitted into the nib with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. Supporting such precision work is the skill and passion of skilled craftsmen.
